Burton Snowboard Bindings – all 2018 models

Burton has probably the best reputation when it comes to snowboard gear from clothes, boards, boots and of course bindings. It´s in the industry since 1977 and is producing high quality products ever since. Compare the latest Burton Snowboard Bindings and pick the perfect one for your style.

One thing you need to know first: Burton has their own channel mounting system on their snowboards and therefore releases two different version of their bindings:

  • The Re:Flex model is the regular disc version that fit´s on every board out there. That means no worries if you end up with a new board from a different brand next season.
  • The EST model only fit´s on boards with the channel system. If you have a Burton Snowboard with the channel, why not go with the binding that is especially designed for it! But remember, that means you are committed to Burton!

The EST versions also come with a slightly better footbed. If you want to find out more, check out this article about the differences between EST and Re:Flex!

Burton Genesis X

Burton Snowboard BindingsReduced weight, more response but (almost) the same comfort. Genesis´ bigger brother, the Burton Genesis X got you covered for intense carving and free riding. Burton is listing it still in the medium FLEX range, but carbon material in the baseplate and highback makes it a good amount stiffer than the regular Genesis . I said almost the same comfort, because it comes with a relatively simple, but fully cushioned footbed compared to the Genesis or the Malavita. Still comfy, but made for immediate response and actually staying on the snow!

    • 30% Short-Glass/Nylon Composite.

A 50/50 carbon-fibre mixture in the baseplate as well as in the highback makes this an absolute beast when it comes to performance and response. Made for going wild without lacking comfort, the Burton X-Base is all-mountain / free ride fun for the advanced snowboarder.

  • Baseplate

    • Lightweight 50:50 Carbon Fiber / Nylon Composite.
  • Highback

    • Carbon Composite.

Burton Snowboard BindingsStop being lazy and start to earn your turns with the Burton Hitchhiker! To reach the best untouched terrain, there is no way around a splitboard, unless you have the dollars for a helicopter or a snowcat – but that´s not the same. The Hitchhiker is basically a Spark R&D baseplate with Burtons straps and highback. It allows a negative forward lean to make hiking as easy as possible and fits without any additional gear on Burtons splitboards made in 2015 or later!

BURTON GENESIS REVIEW

There you go, a detailed insight in the 2018 Burton snowboard bindings. So far I did not mention their latest release, the Burton Step On. Totally redesigned, they are trying to give the terrible and outdated step-in bindings from the 90s a revival.

I heard a lot of good things so far but at the same time, you find a notice on Burtons homepage that every owner has to update their gear because sometimes, they don´t engage properly. I think these bindings are becoming a huge thing, but I personally want to give it more time. Obviously, there are still some bugs!

Other than that, Burton puts together fantastic gear that will make you happy!

Have you got any questions regarding snowboard gear? Drop them below and I will get back to you. Also, let me know what you are riding and have you got any experience with Burton gear?

Like and share if you want and keep riding!

  1. For me the Burton Custom and Burton Cartel look the most appealing! They seem to be comfortable just from looking at them and it’d be interesting on how they’d feel when shredding some powder on the slopes.

What would be your favourites and why?

Thanks for the great article mate!

    1. Hi Jeremy!

I´d go for the Cartel! I had one quite a few times and it´s good binding mate. The custom is quite soft which can be fun! I´d always be down a ride on them but the Cartel is my pick on a long-term based decision!

The Cartel also has better straps and a more comfortable footbed! But, of course, also more expensive!

      More response? Cartel!
More flex and a more surfy ride? Custom!

  2. Great review, you give a lot of details which I love because I like to do research before I make a purchase and you have done that for me. I like the Burton Stilleto, I have to admit it is because of the color lol. If there was purple I would have been sold again, hehe. Thanks for such a great review, I will share this with some people who I know will love it. 🙂

    1. I´m glad you like it! Burton has some cool colors in their women range I reckon! The Stiletto is great if you mastered your first turns but don´t have a lot of days in the snow!

Let everyone know I am more than happy to help them out with any questions regarding gear! 🙂

      have a good one

  3. Wow, you have a lot of Burton Bindings here, I liked the Women’s Citizen Binding I am from Colorado and I am looking for new bindings, it might have to wait a little but I am definitely interested in checking these out again when I am ready to buy. hank you and I am also sending this to my nephew who is an avid snow boarder, Thanks again for the post.

    1. Hi Bobbi!

Thanks for your feedback. Since when are you riding and how would you describe your style? Let´s find your binding now so you can grab a bargain when there on sale!

      Have a good one!

  4. OOo I love the Buron Stiletto. Very cool that they have distinctive lines for both men and women. because not only can I have customized bindings, I can also get matching ones for my partner 🙂

    1. Hi Penelope!

Yeah, as long as you guys are on the same level! 🙂 Maybe let your partner have a look before you order some haha. I´m here if you guys have any further questions!

  5. I like the double take buckle system on the Malavitas. Also, the design of the boot is pretty sick, the wood-finish is a nice touch.

There’s a lot to pick from here but the faster strap fastening is a good selling point for sure. Thanks for putting all of these choices in one place. It makes it a lot easier to compare and make a decision. 🙂

    1. I´m glad you like it mate! You find the double take buckles on the Malavita, the Genesis, the Genesis X and the X Base!
Getting in fast is a huge selling point! That´s why I like the FlexSlider as well. It ensures that your ankle strap is not in your way when you´re getting back in!

      Keep riding!

  6. I’ve been looking at the Burton Scribes for a while. Women’s items sometimes have funky colors compared to the men’s equivalents but the Scribes come in some interesting designs, especially the Northern Lights design. I’ve heard from some people that these tend to run a bit smaller than usual – do you recommend ordering a size up for these?

    1. Hi Valerie

This is the first time that I hear that and I would recommend to stick with the size chart. Snowboard boots can definitely alternate on the inside and I would never buy a boot without wearing them for good 30 minutes in a shop.

You should not have a problem with bindings, though. A boot with the size 7 will go with a medium binding 🙂

  7. Excellent review, very thorough and great looking! As a former snowboarder (got older and more sore haha) I am very familiar with Burton’s equipment, and feel it is the best in the industry. Your review was incredibly thorough and did any and all research I could want or need to help me decide what to buy. Excellent work!

    1. Thanks mate, I appreciate your feedback. Let me know if you need further help and please let your friends who are still not-so-sore 😛 know to come over here and ask me anything!

  8. I have the same surname as this company. I wish I owned it. You’re right when you say they have one of the best reputations in the business when it comes to snow gear and other products.

The hinge technology Burton have devised for their bindings is a great idea.

Snowboarding is something I’ve only recently tried a few times, so I’m on the hunt to learn more about it and what’s good gear. Normally I just ski, but snowboarding will be more fun once I get the hang of it.

Thanks for the review. I think I’ll keep the Burton snowboard gear in mind when I’m ready to buy something.

    1. Hi Darren!

I´m glad you like it. Snowboarding is fantastic so let me know if you need any further help and spread the word if you like! Catch you later man

  9. Never did any snowboarding, but I am learning every time I read these articles. I see by looking a lot of difference in them, from what I read the burton freestyle seems like one that would be easy to use all around.

    1. It´s never too late Fred! The Freetyle are affordable and have the perfect play for beginners! Let me know if you have any questions!

  10. Great article and a lot of useful information. I like the Burton Free Style and was wondering if it can help with my knee pains. I wondering how light it is. Or what do you recommend for somebody with knee pains?
I have knee pains and sometimes the heavier the shoes the more I feel the pain when lifting.
Thank you again for the great article.

    1. Hi there! The most important thing to do if you have issues with knee pain, is that you ride a stance that is comfortable for you. Check out my post about finding the perfect stance and from there on, really alternate from time to time until you find the right set up. It may take some time and can be a bit annoying but it´s worth it and once it´s done, you don´t have to worry about it anymore!

Higher priced bindings, in Burton’s range it starts with the Cartel, come with canted footbeds. That means your foot is not flat on the binding but at an angle and therefore your knees, hips and ankles are aligned. That results in a more comfortable stance and is definitely better for your knees!

I hope that helps! Let me know if you have further questions

  11. Interesting site. Snowboarding is a lot of fun. The proper equipment is a must.
Actually, I can see the diversity of bindings.
I think a good idea would be to add the examples for youth and kids.

    Thanks for the info!
